Caring never ends, and neither does laundry. Two Georgetown nonprofit organizations that assist people with basic needs, The Caring Place and Laundry Love Georgetown, are thrilled to announce a collaborative effort through which the laundry program will transition to The Caring Place’s offerings of services.
Laundry Love Georgetown, established in 2013, has served as a vital resource for the community, providing free laundry services in a friendly and dignified environment. Leslie Hearne, the Executive Director of Laundry Love Georgetown, is stepping down after nine years of leadership, but the legacy of this important service she has stewarded will continue under The Caring Place.
Leslie reflects on her time with Laundry Love Georgetown, “It has been an incredible privilege to serve our community alongside such dedicated volunteers. I am confident that The Caring Place is the perfect partner to carry on this vital program. Together, we are ensuring the continuation of a program that lifts self-esteem, restores dignity, and contributes to one’s health and hygiene, all of which come from wearing clean clothes and sleeping on clean sheets.”
“We are honored that Leslie is entrusting this impactful and well-run program she’s built to The Caring Place,” says Erin Becnel, Programs and Services Director at The Caring Place. “Laundry Love perfectly complements our mission of providing basic needs to our neighbors. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition by continuing to use Leslie’s model for the program's impactful service.”
Laundry Love Georgetown offers free laundry at the Georgetown Washatopia (1910 South Austin Avenue) on the second Tuesday and last Thursday of each month. The Caring Place is committed to minimizing disruptions for Laundry Love Georgetown’s dedicated network of volunteers, patrons, and donors. The name of the program will officially transition to "Loads of Caring" on August 1st, but most aspects of the service will remain the same. Loads of Caring will continue to provide free laundry washing and drying for families in need. The Caring Place welcomes Laundry Love's existing Host Teams and encourages new groups to join.
