December Wish List Includes Hygiene Items

The Caring Place (TCP) Hunger Free Holidays Food Drives are finishing the year at The Caring Place with a new item request and a financial gift request. The Hunger Free Holiday campaign, intending to fill the Food Pantry with the things it needs most, is asking the community to donate specific items each month through December. The December request for the Food Pantry is for hygiene items. This includes items like toilet paper, deodorant, body wash, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, feminine products and more. The Caring Place Food Pantry has seen double the Pantry visits since last year and is working hard to address that need.  Financial gifts allow the organization to purchase the items it needs when it needs them and can be made at caringplacetx.org/donate. Due to space restrictions, this is highly recommended as an impactful way to help our neighbors.

TCP’s Director of Food Programs & Facilities, David Earl, explains, “Due to limited space and time for sorting, we think it’s important to focus on one type of item each month. It will help us supplement the Food Pantry with critical items in this busy time while keeping sorting time to a minimum.” David also recommends that organizations holding large Food Drives coordinate those drives in advance with TCP staff. “We order a lot of our food at discounted rates and if we know ahead of time a large food donation is coming in, we can better plan and make space. We need your help like never before and it’s due to that great community need that we also need a heads up so we can best manage time and space.”

Targeted drives help The Caring Place use its resources wisely and ensure the community has a wide selection of necessities in the Food Pantry. Items may be delivered to the Donations drive through at 2000 Railroad Avenue, Mon-Sat, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. If you need the items weighed for a group Food Drive, you can park in the reserved parking spot on the north side of the building and a Food Pantry team member will assist you in unloading and weighing. This reserved parking spot is available Mon, Tues, Wed and Fri, at 2000 Railroad Avenue, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Food Drive coordinators are encouraged to contact the Food Pantry when they plan to deliver food, so it can plan accordingly for warehouse space.
