The Caring Place (TCP) is temporarily expanding its voucher program this fall in order to increase the clothing and shoes budget for children in TCP’s northern Williamson County service area. In addition to already-in-place voucher programs at TCP, qualifying children 18 and under can obtain a $15 voucher per child for clothing and shoes only. Enrollment begins at The Caring Place’s Programs & Services offices at 2001 Railroad Avenue, August 7th-18th, Mon-Fri, 9 a.m - 4 p.m. These special vouchers must be used at The Shops at The Caring Place on or before September 16th, 2023. Shop hours are Mon-Sat, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Programs and Services Director Erin Becnel says, “We hope through this Back to School Voucher, we can support families during a time of the year filled with expenses for children. At The Shops at The Caring Place, shirts and pants prices range from $1.50-$3.00 each. An additional $15 voucher per child should help get growing children started this school year.” Becnel also encourages families to make use of The Food Pantry at The Caring Place. “Utilizing our Food Pantry is another way to stretch the budget for families. If a household can save $200 per month simply by shopping at our Food Pantry, they can hopefully reallocate that money in their budget for another critical bill.”
The Caring Place service area for this program includes Georgetown, Andice, Bartlett, Florence, Granger, Jarrell, Jonah, Schwertner, Walburg, Weir, and the portion of Hutto within GISD. Proof of residency is required.
Due to this new Back-to-School Clothing Voucher Program, as well as a demand for affordable clothing throughout the community, The Caring Place is asking the community to increase their shoes and clothing donations to fulfill the need. Community members can donate clothing, shoes, household items, and nonperishable food for the Food Pantry in the drive through at 2001 Railroad Avenue, Mon-Sat, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Caring Place is also grateful to accept financial donations that go to support all direct services at caringplacetx.org/donate.
